SUMMARY:Rep. Tony McCombie & City of Savanna to host Blood Drive on June 17
DESCRIPTION:State Representative Tony McCombie (IL-71st) and the City of Savanna/ Savanna Fire Department are promoting the Savanna Community Blood Drive on Wednesday\, June 17 from 1:00pm-6:00pm at the Savanna Fire Department Truck Bay\, 101 Main Street\, Savanna. \n“Rep. McCombie and the Savanna community have stepped up again to host a blood drive at such a critical time for our region\,” said Laura McGuire\, communications manager for the Red Cross Illinois Blood Services Region.  “Year after year\, this community steps up to the call for blood donations which go toward helping to save lives.  We are grateful for those who respond to the constant need for blood donations at such a critical time of need.” \nFor an appointment to donate\, please call Rep. McCombie’s office at 815-632-7384 or go to redcross.org. Appointments are requested. \nWith many blood drives cancelled over the past months due to Stay at Home Orders due to COVID\, this is a challenging time for the Red Cross to collect enough blood donations. \nBlood donors of all types\, especially type O\, and platelet donors are urgently needed to give now to avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients. \nHow to Donate: Simply download the Red Cross Blood Donor App\, visit RedCrossBlood.org\, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law)\, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
