On Monday, May 29, the Illinois House of Representatives voted unanimously to restore funding to domestic violence shelters for Fiscal Year 17. HB 3259, provides an $18 million dollar lifeline to domestic violence shelters in Illinois, many of whom have not received any state payments for over 9 months. HB 3259 provides funding for our most vulnerable in their time of need by giving FY17 appropriations for domestic violence shelters so that they will be funded in full as promised by their signed contracts with the State.
Funding for domestic violence shelters was omitted in the previous stop gap budget, and the legislation received broad bi-partisan support and had over 80 co-sponsors.
