Majority Raising Taxes instead of Working on Balanced Budget

Today, with only four (4) days till the budget deadline the Majority in Springfield decided to put to the top of the agenda a constitutional amendment to raise your taxes. We still have eleven (11) months to debate the issue of a constitutional amendment, but the budget negotiations cannot wait any longer.

Illinois residents are already paying the highest combined state and local taxes in the nation in addition to some of the highest property tax rates in the nation. I believe the Democrats’ efforts today put families and businesses even more at risk.

I am fighting for a balanced budget that fully funds our pension payment and will set aside money to chip away at our bill backlog. The extra $800 billion in revenues from economic growth should fund our current State budget.

In addition to a balanced budget, I have been fighting to instead get true reforms that Northwest Illinoisans desperately need in order to provide economic growth to the region:

  • The Blue Collar Jobs Act: incentivizes construction projects
  • Elimination of the Franchise Tax: incentivizes small businesses to start and grow
  • Reinstate the Manufacturers Purchase Credit: incentivizes manufacturers to further invest and grow in our State

The priorities of the Majority are out of step with what Illinoisans truly need.
