Rep. McCombie Announces “People and Places of the 71st District” Photo Contest Winners

Savanna….Today State Representative Tony McCombie (IL-71st) announced the winners of the 2019 Spring photo contest.

“Congratulations to Karen Miles and Scott Wolfe on your winning photos. I love the 71st district, and truly believe we have the most beautiful landscape and wonderful people,” said Representative McCombie. “I enjoyed looking through all the photos that were submitted this spring for our 2nd photo contest. I love showing off the people and places of the 71st district so these will be a great addition to the office.”

Dozens of photos from across the district were submitted to the contest. The winning photo from each category (one of People and another of Places) will be displayed in the local (Savanna) and Springfield offices.

Karen Miles of Lyndon took the winning photo of Ellsworth Creek in the places category. Karen paddled upstream on her kayak to the creek off the Rock River, between Lyndon and Prophetstown in order to get this shot. It was taken in early June during a brief period in between floods when the water level was down.

Scott Wolfe of Savanna took the winning photo in the people category of the ‘Sandbaggers from Savanna.’ This photo highlights just a few of the almost 200 West Carroll High School students, along with many other groups and individuals that volunteered their time to assist the Savanna Fire Department’s sandbagging efforts during flood season. When this wall was completed several days later, the Mississippi floodwaters would continue to rise another 20 inches.
