Bridge Between Sterling & Rock Falls to Close for Deck Improvements

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces today that weather permitting, construction work will begin on Monday, September 23, 2019 on the Avenue G / 12th Avenue bridge between Sterling and Rock Falls. ERA Valdivia Contractors, Inc. will be starting work on the $292,000 contract to make deck improvements to the bridge over the south branch of the Rock River.

The bridge will be closed to traffic for the duration of the project, with access to Lawrence Park only from the Sterling side of the river. Pedestrian access will be maintained from Sterling to Rock Falls. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
