The Illinois Department of Transportation announces today that weather permitting, construction work is to begin on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, on the I-80 bridge over the Mississippi River. Interstate Maintenance will be completing the annual spring bridge washing of the structure. Lane closures from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., Monday night thru Thursday night, will be required to complete the washing. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
