The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that weather permitting, construction on the bridge carrying US 30 over Elkhorn Creek in Whiteside County will begin on Monday, July 12, 2021. The bridge is located 2.5 miles west of Rock Falls.
Martin & Co. Excavating of Oregon is the contractor of the $147,605 project, which includes expansion joint replacement. Drivers should be prepared to stop near the work zone as one lane of traffic will be maintained with a barrier wall and controlled with signals. Work is expected to be completed by mid-August.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 2,779 miles of highway and 7.9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
