DIXON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction on U.S. 30 in Rock Falls will begin Monday, Aug. 22. The work zone is from the Hennepin Feeder Canal Bridge east of Illinois 40 and the Whiteside-Lee County line east of Interstate 88.
The project will patch, mill and resurface nearly 3 miles of U.S. 30. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers when workers are present during the daytime. Access to businesses and residences will be open, but there may be some periodic side street closures for short periods. This $3 million project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November.
Furthermore, IDOT announced today that weather permitting, construction on the intersection of U.S. 30 and Emerson Road in Whiteside County will begin Monday, Aug.22. The intersection is located 8 miles east of Morrison.
Work will close Emerson Road at U.S. 30. A marked detour will guide Emerson Road traffic using West Lincoln Highway and U.S. 30. Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 9.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,535 miles of highway and 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Two included approximately $5.2 billion in improvements statewide on 3,020 miles of highway and 270 bridges along with 428 additional safety improvements.
