House Minority Leader Tony McCombie visited Elgin Community College where she took a tour of the health sciences building and met with the board of trustees.
The tour was led by Dr. Wendy Miller, the Health Professions, Math, Science & Engineering Dean at Elgin Community College, and included an inside look at the new learning spaces recently built, which have been able to house 16 professional programs at the college. Leader McCombie was able to see the practice labs for nursing assistants, medical assistants, surgical technicians, and ophthalmic technicians–the eye technician program being one of three available in Illinois.
Leader McCombie was impressed with the hands-on learning capabilities in each of the practice labs, which incorporate modern technology for advanced learning, and the future plans for the college, which are slated to include a new manufacturing technology building.
