Americans for Prosperity-Illinois (AFP-IL) joined House Republican Leader Tony McCombie and Senate Republican Leader John Curran at Montrose Food Mart & Deli in Chicago to provide free groceries for customers for a limited time.
“Life is more expensive for Illinois residents due to Democrats self serving spending habits and vast appetite for spending hardworking taxpayer dollars,” said Leader McCombie. “Today I was proud to provide some relief to families on their grocery bill, which has felt the effects of the administration’s tax gimmicks. The House Republicans will continue to work for real tax relief that will truly help Illinois families!”
Prices for groceries are up 24.4 percent since January 2021, costing a family of four an extra $59.08 per week for a moderate-cost plan. To highlight the consequences of the broken policies coming out of Washington, DC and Springfield, AFP will provide $60 gift cards to be used on groceries for Montrose Food Mart & Deli.
A crowd of Illinoisians gathered for the grocery giveaways, many with stories of difficulty affording everyday items. Leaders McCombie and Curran spoke with Chicagoans about these pressing issues and the impact of the Biden and Pritzker agenda of reckless spending and inflationary policies.
“Today’s crowd of Chicagoans lining up for a discount on everyday groceries is emblematic of the financial uncertainty that many Illinoisians are feeling under the Biden and Pritzker administrations,” said AFP-IL State Director Jason Heffley. “Today, AFP, joined by Leaders McCombie and Curran, to highlight the consequences of the broken policies coming out of Washington and Springfield.”
