Looking to celebrate the holidays by sending some holiday cheer? You can do just that by sending an Illinois veteran a holiday card this season!
“Operation Rising Spirit” was launched earlier this month by the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs to help veterans know they are loved and appreciated this Christmas.
In her support for the program, Director Terry Prince of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs noted the uplifted spirits of veterans in receiving cards. “Vets are really moved when they feel support from folks in the community,” Prince said. House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has also encouraged Illinois residents to participate in the program calling it “a small effort that goes a long way to make someone feel special this holiday!”
Illinois has five state veterans’ homes in Anna, Chicago, LaSalle, Manteno and Quincy. The cards can be sent directly to the local facilities or: c/o Crystal Womack, The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Central Office, 833 South Spring Street, Springfield, IL 62794-9432
Notes may also be sent directly through the IDVA website.
