In honor of Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s national day commemorating Israel’s Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie released a video interview reflecting on her visit to Israel late last year.
Leader McCombie traveled with a Midwest delegation at the invitation of the State of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The purpose of the trip was to meet with elected officials, government leaders, and community-based groups to strengthen ties and understand how Illinois can be a stronger partner going forward.
“Meeting the people of Israel after the October 7th terrorist attack strengthened my resolve to support our ally as they continue to work toward justice and greater security for their people,” said McCombie.
McCombie was especially touched by stories of Oded Lifshitz, a devoted husband, father & grandfather; a peace activist and Kibbutz leader who was tragically kidnapped and murdered at the hands of Hamas terrorists in February.
“It was an honor to meet the family of Oded Lifshitz while in Israel. The ongoing conflict has taken too many lives—every hostage is a reminder of just how much is at stake. May he and all of the victims rest in peace,” said McCombie.
As Leader, McCombie has prioritized first-hand knowledge of Illinois’ own geographical assets and resources, job creators, industries, and struggles. The Midwest Delegation was an opportunity to learn how Illinois can continue to be a great partner in growth.
Leading up to her trip with the Midwest Delegation, McCombie was vocal in her support for Israel in the Illinois House of Representatives. McCombie sponsored HR55, a Resolution to remember and honor the victims of the terrorist attack on October 7th, 2023.
Through her video interview and continued advocacy in the state legislature, the Leader has continued to support Israel. Watch the video interview here:
