Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie passed legislation this spring to encourage more young people to pursue work-based learning experiences. Her bill, House Bill 2802, would amend the school code to allow for participation in a supervised career development experience. Those programs could include career and technical education student organizations, FFA associations, and 4-H programs as part of organized competitions, exhibitions, or conferences.
For McCombie, this will help ensure that students have an opportunity to experience high-paying and in demand careers after high school.
“I am proud of the opportunity this legislation creates for young students to be exposed to a variety of careers,” said McCombie. “That exposure can help students learn about alternative pathways that can set them up for success.”
The legislation passed both chambers unanimously with bipartisan support. It will now move onto the Governor’s desk for his signature.
