According to two House Resolutions passed in Springfield this year, June 10th is declared FSGS Awareness Day for Kidney Disease.
Today, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is helping spread awareness in light of House Resolution 326 and Senate Resolution 273 by sharing these facts:
- FSGS is a condition referring to scarring in the kidneys
- 50% of patients with FSGS require dialysis or a kidney transplant within 5 to 10 years of diagnosis
- FSGS disproportionately impacts individuals in Black communities due to the variants of the APOL1 gene
- FSGS Awareness Day promotes awareness and provides support and inspiration to patients and families struggling with the disease.Â
