January 11th is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Every year, millions of people become victims of human trafficking, making it a global epidemic. In order to help combat it, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is sharing information on how to recognize and respond to potential cases.
“Human trafficking doesn’t just happen ‘somewhere else.’ It happens in Illinois communities—urban and rural alike,” said House Minority Leader Tony McCombie.
Trafficking often hides in plain sight:
• Online recruitment
• Hotels and truck stops
• Domestic labor and service jobs
• Runaways and vulnerable youth
“Awareness saves lives,” continued McCombie. “It is essential to know the signs to do what you can to help fight this epidemic.”
