Reliable Energy is Essential

With the cold temperatures impacting Illinois this week, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is reflecting on the importance of reliable energy to heat homes and businesses this winter.

“Reliable energy is crucial for our state. When we are trying to keep our homes warm, we cannot afford the risk of energy shortages. It’s about energy we can count on and can afford,” said Leader McCombie.

The “green” energy policies passed in Springfield by the Democrat majority have increased the risk of energy shortages while raising costs even higher for Illinois families who are just trying to keep their lights on and their homes warm.

After the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act was signed into law weeks ago, Leader McCombie blasted the misleading effort, and highlighted. “This bill expands mandates, bureaucracy, and regulatory control while offering no guaranteed, near-term relief for families already struggling with some of the highest utility costs in the Midwest,” said McCombie.

“For years, Illinois Democrats have promised that the next energy bill would finally lower bills,” she continued. “The Governor’s claims of “savings” over decades relies on unknown assumptions, but Illinoisans don’t pay their electric bills in projections.”

McCombie emphasized that House Republicans support a comprehensive approach to energy that includes reliable natural gas, coal, and nuclear–and that should be reliable, affordable, and transparent.
