Leader McCombie’s Women in Ag Group Welcomes Sarah Frey

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie hosted a special event this week for her Women in Agriculture Advisory Group. McCombie has continued to spearhead meetings and events with women in her district who work in and around agriculture in Illinois; in the past the group has met virtually to discuss concerns, hear legislative updates, and take tours—including the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline.

This week the group hosted a special book club on “The Growing Season: How I Built a New Life – and Saved an American Farm,” with the book’s author, Sarah Frey.

Frey grew up in Southern Illinois and founded her family-operated company, Frey Farms – one of America’s largest fresh produce growers and shippers. She joined McCombie’s group discussion about the book, answered questions, and shared insight into the agriculture industry.

“It was inspiring to meet Sarah, discuss her life and incredible perseverance, and gain insight from a female leader about agriculture in Illinois and where it is headed,” said Leader McCombie.

McCombie is looking forward to hosting additional meetings with the advisory group. If residents are interested in joining, they can contact her district office at [email protected].
