After the Chicago Tribune’s investigative report into House Speaker Chris Welch’s response to sexual harassment complaints regarding former State Representative Harry Benton, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie issued the following statement:
“The reporting released today raises serious questions about what House leadership knew, when they knew it, and whether they acted quickly enough to protect staff.
“Delays in delivering accountability only protects misconduct. The Benton report should be released, and anyone who failed to uphold their responsibility must be held accountable. The culture has not changed and must change; public trust depends on it.”
