State Lawmakers Provide Community Members with Legislative Update

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie joined State Representative Jeff Keicher (DeKalb) for a legislative update in Genoa. The lawmakers provided a comprehensive review of legislation passed in Springfield, listened to local residents about their concerns, and had a productive dialogue about policies that can help address the state’s biggest challenges impacting families.

This event was the latest in Leader McCombie’s effort to relay happenings in Springfield back to her northwest Illinois legislative district. Since session adjourned in May, the Leader has traveled across the 89th District and surrounding areas to meet with constituents, listen to feedback, and understand what residents want accomplished under the dome.

State Representative Jeff Keicher has also hosted a number of events throughout his district, which neighbors Leader McCombie’s District. The pair was able to team up for the Genoa event, which included conversations around the cost of living in Illinois, the high tax burden, threats to local controls and frustrations over the one-party rule in Springfield.

“Hearing directly from residents about their concerns is essential to what we do as lawmakers,” said Leader McCombie. “Every policy passed in Springfield has an impact on our local residents and we need to know the challenges facing them to be able ot legislative effectively.”

State Representative Jeff Keicher also reflected a similar sentiment about being the voice of residents in Springfield.

“Hearing directly from constituents is one of the most important parts of our job as State Representatives,” said Keicher. “These conversations, no matter if they are large group events like this, online town halls, survey responses, or individual conversations, help us better serve our communities and bring legislation forward in Springfield. I want to thank all the residents who joined us to have their voice heard.”

Lawmakers will not return to Springfield until the fall veto session; both Keicher and McCombie will continue to spend time in their districts throughout the summer.
