Legislation recently signed into law by the Governor will help strengthen support for Illinois service members and veterans. House Minority Leader supported these pieces of legislation in the Illinois House, and was proud to see them cross the finish line with the Governor’s signature:
- SB 3737: Requires universities to promptly readmit students following academic military leave
- SB 3818: Incentivizes Illinois National Guard recruitment with peer-to-peer referrals
- SB 3926: Moves the Breakthrough Therapies for Veteran Suicide Prevention Program Advisory Council under the Department of Public Health
These new laws support Illinois service members and veterans by expanding educational protections, strengthening National Guard recruitment, and improving coordination of veteran mental health programs. Together, they demonstrate a legislative commitment to enhancing services, opportunities, and support systems for military personnel and veterans throughout the state.
All three measures will become effective starting January 1, 2027.
