Rep. McCombie Releases Statement on State Budget Impasse
Springfield…State Representative Tony McCombie released the following statement on after the 2017 spring legislative session deadline passed without sending a budget to Governor Rauner raising the number of votes to pass a budget to 71:
“It appears that for the second year in a row the majority party will fail to put a budget on the Governor’s desk. As the legislative session goes into ‘continuous session’ I will continue to advocate for a compromise that includes a responsible balanced budget for the new fiscal year starting on July 1st. My hope is that the majority party will now work with us to find a compromise that protects our citizens by funding education, funding human services, and promoting economic growth.” said Rep. McCombie. “Every day Illinois goes without a budget our schools are at risk of not opening in the fall and our most vulnerable citizens will suffer. The citizens of District 71 and our state deserve more than what they were given today! We have a $130 billion in pension debt and a $14 billion backlog of bills and can only get out of this mess by having the courage to pass a comprehensive budget for our future.”
