The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction will begin on the bridge carrying Illinois 84 over the Soo Line Railroad on Tuesday, August 17. The bridge is located just south of US 52 and Illinois 64 in Savanna.
Work will replace bridge expansion joints and improve the pavement approaches. Traffic will be reduced to one lane using temporary traffic signals during the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of September. Martin & Company Excavating of Oregon is the contractor of the $187,000 project.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
