Christmas at the Fort – Elizabeth

Step back to Christmas in 1832 at the Apple River Fort in Elizabeth and experience the holiday as it would have been celebrated on the Illinois frontier. Explore a beautifully decorated fir tree, watch hand-molded marzipan being made, and enjoy hands-on period toys and games for all ages. Visitors can also barter for frontier goods at the Fort’s historic fur trading post and browse the Interpretive Center gift shop for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts inspired by local history. It’s a festive and family-friendly way to celebrate the season while experiencing life at one of Illinois’ most significant historic sites.
